ECR 2019 was the 25th ECR Congress to be held in Vienna since 1991 and attracted a record total attendance of more than 30,000 when 7,000 online viewers were factored in. Along with the Austria Centre and technical exhibition halls the conference has expanded to incorporate many of the surrounding buildings making it a ‘congress city’.
The theme for this year was ‘The bigger picture’ and according to ESR president Professor Lorenzo Derchi, it was a chance to reflect on the journey of European radiology through the past years and as a starting point for the future.
The UK was well represented at the congress with Professor Paul Sidhu from King’s College Hospital, London, presenting an honorary lecture on ‘Contrast-enhanced ultrasound in paediatrics: ready for clinical practice?’ and Professor Anna-Maria Belli from St George’s Hospital, London, receiving a Gold Medal in recognition of her achievements in advancing interventional radiology.
Next year’s congress will be held in Vienna from March 11-15.
