Hard work pays off as diagnostic imaging title hits the shelves

The latest book in the K C Clark series was launched on February 27 at IRS Limited in Liverpool. Clark’s Procedures in Diagnostic Imaging – A System Based Approach covers a range of diagnostic and interventional procedures.

IRS radiation protection adviser Paul Connolly welcomed more than 50 guests including authors, contributors, industry colleagues, friends and family. A general introduction was given by senior publisher – medicine and life science Dr Joanna Koster of CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group, while special guest Richard Evans OBE, chief executive of the Society and College of Radiographers, gave an informative account of the legacy of K C Clark.

Book launch at IRS
Some of the book’s authors and contributors celebrate its launch.

Senior editor Stewart Whitley introduced the main authors and major contributors who were able to attend the occasion. He also thanked the many colleagues and institutions across the UK, Europe and beyond who contributed by providing images and support in completing the book. He then thanked Philips UKI and Agfa for their sponsorship and Alliance Medical for its support in the provision of many images.

Whitley said that producing the book was a long process involving many hospitals and educational establishments and that he hoped the comprehensive work would be a great resource to student radiographers and those wishing to embark on working in a specialist modality.

The book consists of 13 chapters bringing together conventional contrast media studies, CT, ultrasound, MRI, radionuclide imaging including hybrid imaging using SPECT/CT and PETCT, DXA studies and digital interventional procedures in one volume. It is expected to be the essential source of information on the use and application of these imaging modalities in radiography. It takes a systemic anatomical approach, carefully designed to be clear and consistent throughout and mirroring that of the popular and established textbook Clark’s Positioning in Radiography. Each chapter is highly illustrated and contains sections detailing anatomy, pathologic considerations, procedure methodology and an evaluation of recommended imaging modalities. The book also reflects on the latest clinical imaging pathways and referral guidelines including IR(ME)R 2017, the Map of Medicine and RCR iRefer (8E).

Clark’s Procedures in Diagnostic Imaging – A System Based Approach will be available through the RAD Magazine book service.
