Patients can be treated in a day at Royal Oldham’s IR unit

With the unit’s first patient are consultant interventional radiologist Ranjeet Narlawar and radiology matron Heather Andrew.

The Royal Oldham Hospital has opened its new interventional radiology day case unit that will enable patients to avoid an overnight stay in hospital.

Previously patients would have been admitted to an inpatient ward, however the unit will enable patients to be admitted, treated and discharged in one location in six hours.

Senior directorate manager of radiology and neurophysiology Paul Barker said: “The unit will be a fantastic addition to the service we offer at the hospital as it will help to reduce cancelled operations.”
